UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO Los Alamos EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES TRAINING LABORATORIES

The UNM Los Alamos renovation project sought to address the safety and compliance concerns, as well as accessibility issues of the Emergency Medical Service Training laboratories. The renovation included real-life simulation labs to mimic the environments where EMS students may find critical in-need patients. Special HVAC and electrical fixtures in these lab rooms were critical to the creation of these environments.

Before beginning the design process, M+Y carefully studied the circulatory needs of the professional staff, students, and equipment within as well as outside of the building. Because of the campus location, integrating this building into the existing campus drainage system required significant and sensitive re-working of existing drainage by including a new retaining wall between the building and existing road.
